May No Tree Stand Alone, the beginnings of Happy Accidents Gift Co.
Last year while transitioning between one home to another, my sister and I crashed with a few friends for a couple of weeks. Four of us in a tiny apartment, we watched Bob Ross's show The Joy of Painting for what felt like every day and night for weeks straight, before it was even on Netflix.
We got so obsessed we had a theme party, for our house warming party shortly later, that turned so rowdy it almost became our eviction party as well. All being musicians and lovers of all things art, we dubbed this period of our life Rockstar Band Camp and Bob Ross was our rockstar painting conductor. I learned many valuable life lessons from Bob, which inspired the name for my first solo business endeavour, and reminded me about the power and importance of art and creativity in our lives.
We don't make mistakes. We just have happy accidents.
I taught my son to paint mountains like these, and guess what? Now he paints the best darn mountains in the industry.
In painting, you have unlimited power. You have the ability to move mountains. You can bend rivers. But when I get home, the only thing I have power over is the garbage.
Look around. Look at what we have. Beauty is everywhere—you only have to look to see it.
Just go out and talk to a tree. Make friends with it.
Trees cover up a multitude of sins.
The secret to doing anything is believing that you can do it. Anything that you believe you can do strong enough, you can do. Anything. As long as you believe.
If I paint something, I don't want to have to explain what it is.
We artists are a different breed of people. We're a happy bunch.
Just put a few do-ers in there...
People look at me like I'm a little strange, when I go around talking to squirrels and rabbits and stuff. That's ok. Thaaaat's just ok.
We want happy paintings. Happy paintings. If you want sad things, watch the news.
We're gonna make some big decisions in our little world.
You can do anything you want to do. This is your world.
Even if you've never painted before, this one you can do.
We tell people sometimes: we're like drug dealers, come into town and get everybody absolutely addicted to painting. It doesn't take much to get you addicted.
When we teach people to paint this is the one they fall in love with. It works so well.
